Golden Time
(and other behavioural management strategies)
Golden Time takes its name from a UK primary school behaviour system where children “earn” an hour of free time at the end of the week - with minutes deducted for misbehaviour. Blending theatre, spoken word, creative projection and auto-fictional performance, the show interrogates how our culture disciplines behaviour, productivity and creativity from childhood, imposing rigid ideas of time, reward and worth on our earliest experiences of joy. Golden Time is both a personal and political reckoning with how joy is incentivised, time is earned, and what it might mean to return to the inner child we were taught to regulate. Premiered at the Pleasance Dome, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, and now transferred to the Roundhouse, Studio Theatre.
